The Dresden Groundwater Research Centre e.V. (DGFZ) was founded in 1990 as a non-profit registered association and currently has about 50 personal and 10 institutional members.
According to its statutes, it conducts in its research area:
- Concept development for soil and groundwater management and protection,
- development of strategies and procedures for in-situ remediation of contaminated soils and aquifers, and
- implementation and promotion of further training events and conferences.
Within the framework of long-term R&D work, young scientists have the opportunity to work on their doctorates.
Since 1995, about 27 doctoral candidates and three post-doctoral candidates of DGFZ have defended their dissertations and post-doctoral theses at various universities with very good results. Every year, about five students work on their internship and diploma thesis at GWZ within the framework of R&D projects.
